I’m taking a CPR class tomorrow in preparation for my personal trainer certification. There are other ways to save lives. Like standing up instead of sitting at your desk all day.
So, thank you Brian Howe for helping prolong my life. The new standing workstations at HUB Seattle are very much appreciated.
Brian and I have talked a lot over the past few months about the benefits of standing at your desk. I think standing workstations were in his plan for HUB Seattle even before those conversations. In any case, it was very nice to arrive this morning to find a new two-person standing workstation among the desks at the HUB. Better yet, the new desk is positioned right in front of the window, with a view of Pioneer Square and the Olympic Mountains.
There are interesting challenges with standing workstations in a shared work environment like the HUB. In order to have the right ergonomic set-up, the ideal standing workstation would be height-adjustable. Brian is running a lean start-up, so fancy gadgetry like that just wasn’t in the budget. Luckily a couple of nice thick books from the HUB library (you can see them in the picture above) bring my laptop up to the right height.
So here it is, my first post from a standing desk at HUB Seattle. Can’t you just feel the health and vitality of my new vertical posture zipping through the interwebs?
